Accurus Aerospace Athens LLC

Founded in 1963, Accurus Aerospace Athens LLC (formerly McCann Aerospace) is one of Georgia’s largest aerospace metal machining companies. A supplier to numerous Aerospace and Defense Contractors throughout North America, Europe and Asia.

Accurus Aerospace is among the world’s most capable metal machining companies. With two facilities that employ 237 skilled teammates. The primary facility is located in Athens, Georgia, approximately 60 miles northeast of Atlanta. Accurus offers a wide range of capabilities including:

  • Expertise in the high speed machining of castings and forgings as well as thin-wall aluminum monolithic parts and hard metal machining,
  • Proficiency over a wide range of part sizes with a transition to focus on long bed (90 feet),
  • Kitting, integration, and the ability to furnish next-higher simple and complex assemblies,
  • Strong “design for manufacturing” engineering capabilities.

Accurus has over 98 CNC spindles to support projects of substantial size. Over 40% of machining capacity is geared for the machining of complex titanium components. Accurus expanded its capabilities through the purchase of new machines and the addition of 60,000 square feet of manufacturing space to the Athens facility, completed in October, 2015. This brought the total square footage in Athens to 155,000 square feet.

The Accurus platform participation roster includes Boeing 737, 747, 767, 777, 777F and 787, as well as the Gulfstream G550 and the new G650, 500 and 600 Business Jets. Military Programs include C-130, F-15, F-16, F/A-18, F/A-22, F-35, UH-60, and CH-47.

Silgan Closures opened its plant in Athens, Georgia in 1998 as Silgan White Cap, and has been creating premium quality food and beverage closures in Athena Industrial Park ever since. Silgan Closures prides itself in its innovation and customer support, which can be seen directly in their constant consumer research, resulting in revolutionary custom products.


A company born in Northeast Georgia, SKAPS Industries made Athens its headquarters in 2006. SKAPS Industries specializes and in manufacturing and supplying Geosynthetic material and Fiberglass fabrics. SKAPS Industries proudly employs over 220 full time employees out of its location in Athena Industrial Park.








An asset to the Advanced Manufacturing community is the New Materials Institute at the University of Georgia. The New Materials institute to connect Athens local industries to with the appropriate research and faculty to create new materials to solve problems and meet business needs while meeting their goal of sustainability and “green engineering”.







Heavy Equipment

CaterpillarAthens largest manufacturing facility, Caterpillar opened in October 2013.The Athens facility is Caterpillar’s global source for small track-type tractors and provides mini hydraulic excavators for customers in North and South America and Europe. The facility is part of Caterpillar’s Building Construction Products Division, which is based in Cary, N.C.

More than 1,300 employees, work at the facility includes major fabrications, paint and final assembly for both products.
