Workforce development starts at the Athens Community Career Academy. Through The Athens Community Career Academy, Clarke County School District high school students are given the opportunity to take core college classes,complete career driven college certification programs and be a part of work-based learning programs such as the Great Promise Partnership, internships and apprenticeships within the business community. The Athens Community Career Academy works closely with the industries and business in Athens, and actively builds new curricula to help support business needs – training students for high demand jobs in our community. With these programs, a Clarke County School District student is able to graduate high school with an associates degree or technical college certificates free of charge.
Athens Technical College has a comprehensive technical college that keeps its pulse on the needs of the community. With an active Business and Industry Services department, Athens Technical college can provide customized training and workforce development programs based on your specific business needs. Customized training can include a variety of subjects – from safety and forklift training to supervisory development, Six Sigma and more! Having the unique needs of industry in mind, Athens Technical College creates programming that can be taught on-site or on the Athens Technical College campus and can coordinate with all shift schedules.
As a member of the Technical College System of Georgia, Athens Technical College also administers the Georgia Quick Start Program and State of Georgia Retraining Tax Credit programs for Athens industries.
The birthplace of higher education in America, the University of Georgia is an institutional land grant university – having been created by the State of Georgia, the University of Georgia is now charged with the duty of sharing their resources and knowledge to create a thriving community and state. With that in mind, the University of Georgia has an active Economic Development arm that works closely with local businesses to provide an easy point of contact for their needs.
