About Us

The Athens-Clarke County Economic Development Department was established by ordinance of the Mayor and Commission on February 5, 2013.

Since then, our team has been the primary point of contact for industries, large commercial developments, site location consultants, and state economic development organizations interested in developing, expanding, or locating new or expanded businesses in Athens-Clarke County.

We do this by targeting key employment opportunities like aerospace, advanced materials, bioscience, heavy equipment, automotive industries.

We are here to help.

Whether you’re relocating, expanding, or starting with a new business idea, our staff and partner agencies will help. We offer assistance with site selection, detailed area maps, financial incentives, grant & loans, workforce development, public infrastructure improvements, supplier sourcing, international trade consulting, research, entrepreneur resource referrals, permit assistance and much more. Contact us. If we can’t do it, we’ll point you in the direction of a trusted, allied organization that can.

Our department works closely with the rest of the Unified Government to provide businesses with a friendly and neighborly experience in Athens, Georgia. Athens-Clarke County has distinguished itself within the #1 State to Do Business by providing specialized assistance no matter what your business needs.
